So as I mentioned, Lauren took the same flight back to England with us when we flew home from Canada. It has been 2 years since she moved back to the homeland after living over here. And 2 years since we’d seen each other so it was nice to be able to spend time together there and here.
One of the highlights of the visit for me was Lauren and my mini camping trip to Chatsworth. We got to our campsite after 1pm and then walked from there to Bakewell for some lunch and picked up our dinner too (Bakewell pudding – what else?). The next day we explored Chatsworth house and gardens and pretended we were rich for a day. It is very opulent but the current owners (it’s been passed from generations to the current Duke and Duchess of Devonshire) have done a great job of maintaining its air of greatness while making sure they are still able to afford the costs of such a grand building.
Other highlights of her stay include the four of us (Paul, Lauren, Stella and me) going to Parkgate for a walk and some ice cream, the Canada Day BBQ and a takeaway curry night. But that’s that for time together – in person – for 2 years probably…. However, I do hope that future biennial visits involve as much catching up and time together as the first one did!
In between all of this visiting, I also started a new job. It’s not so far away (geographically from my old job but I hope to be more stimulated and busier than I was. (In my previous job, I experienced the foibles of working for a start-up business and the associated initial low work flows….) And the signs seem to be good that this will be the case. The company is called Nuclear Technologies (www.nuclear.co.uk) and I’m straight onto project work and there seems to be lots of opportunities on the cards. It’s still early days but I think I made the right decision to move there. It’s also refreshing working with so much flexibility and in an environment that feels quite family like.
That being said, I’m still quite glad it’s the weekend! 😉
