Paul and I picked up Brent at Lime Street train station Friday night when he arrived for a weekend visit oop North. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Brent and it’s always good to catch up. I’m so glad he made it up this weekend. So that’s the “friends coming” bit.
The “friends going” bit happened earlier today at Manchester airport. Lauren left for Canada after 4 years living over here. She’s going to be missed terribly by all her British based friends but I’m so glad she came over to live and we’ve got a chance to get to know each other so well. I’ve known of Lauren forever, really, but she was a cousin that I didn’t really spend a lot of time with. Now she is a cousin I know very well and even better than that, she is one of my very best friends.
Airport good-byes are still crappy after all these years. They were 20 some odd years ago when we were saying good-bye to our grandparents after a visit and I never find them any easier…. Having always been split from family and/or friends by the Atlantic Ocean in some way, I feel I’ve experienced my share of them too.
Next week there will be a very exciting airport hello though as we ourselves land in Canada – just a 2 week trip for us, though, rather than anything more permanent. I’m looking forward very much to introducing Paul to Canada and spending time with friends and family.
