Food, glorious food.

It was a bit of a food fuelled weekend for me this past weekend.  It started on Friday night with dinner out with Helen and Harriet at a restaurant in Warrington called Spirit.  It was a neat venue – in an old manor house with a live pianist.  Just up my street.  The food was good too.  I had smoked salmon to start and gnocchi with butternut squash.  I was too full for dessert though which was a real shame as the sticky toffee pudding Helen had looked rather delicious.  And it was really nice to catch up with the girls and hear stories about Owen’s Rugby and Hughie’s developing attitude to life.

On Saturday night we had Gary and Jo over for a Mexican feast including nachos and fajitas.  I think the highlight of the night (other than the company) was the cake.  Look at that.

It had lemon and white chocolate ice cream inside and swiss roll on the outside.  Oh my.  Gary and Jo are thinking of getting a puppy after losing their Dalmatian Lucy a month or so ago so the selection of said puppy including its breed was one of the topics of conversation at the dinner table.  Stella advertised the Springer Spaniel breed of dog effectively paying lots of attention to both Gary and Jo and generally being quite a sweet little thing.  I think the jury is still out though on what puppy to get so we’ll see what happens.

Sunday morning we had to make up for the calories of the weekend with a walk in the park with Stella.  She was on fine form with her ball and the mud.  Paul then proceeded to cut a tree down in the back yard (the sun comes into the yard now, hurray!) while I talked to Canada on Skype/Facetime.  I had a good catch up with Nadine (and family!) and a regular weekly chat with Janet and Mum.  Some piano, a fire and Sunday night tv rounded the weekend off nicely.

Next weekend is our 3rd anniversary.  I always like the excuse of being able to think about our wedding day unashamedly all day so I look forward to Sunday very much.
