Well after getting our Christmas tree up on Friday night, the village light switch on Saturday night and the calendar turning over to December on Sunday all the signs this weekend seem to be pointing to the fact that Christmas is just around the corner.
We had invited Jayne, Paul and the kids over for Christmas crafts on Saturday afternoon so I was determined to have the house decorated for their visit. It meant a late night decorating on Friday night but it was worth it. We met them at the Williamson Art Gallery as there was an art fair and Christmas crafts. We also had a little venture into the village to see the lights getting switched on. The street was packed with people and the organisers seem to have really made a big effort to attract people into the village with stalls selling mulled wine, candy floss and there was face painting too. After some dinner we had some Christmas carols and songs on the piano which I really enjoyed even if I was just picking through the pieces with one hand….
On Sunday I met my friend Emily (…Who got engaged this week – Hurray! Congratulations Emily and Simon!) in Wigan for a vegetarian and vegan cookery workshop at a café called the Coven Delicatessen (thecoven.moonfruit.com). It was a demonstration really of some recipes and techniques but we got to sample everything that was made. My favourites were the falafel burgers and the chocolate cake. I quite enjoyed being a spectator on this one and having a good catch up with Emily in between courses.
Just a standard week this week – back to agility and piano lessons the next couple of nights and I’m out for dinner on Friday night with Helen and Harriet. Work is very busy in the run up to Christmas too so any hope of a nice pre-Christmas wind down I’m afraid won’t be happening…. Nevermind, I still have 2 weeks off work.
