A bit of a short trip to Canada on my own this time but after almost 2 years of not being home, it was a long time coming.
It was a good chance to spend some time with my Mum and Dad and although I couldn’t catch up with everyone, there were a few other friends and family that I managed to get the chance to see.
The time went something like this:
Monday 22nd of April
Arrived and straight into Toronto to see Lauren and Andre and their beautiful house in the Upper Beaches. Spoiled with homemade pizza, chocolate peanut butter cake and a Canadian themed present for my birthday.
Tuesday 23rd of April
Headed to Newmarket via public transport to meet Mum and Dad. Some shopping at the Upper Canada Mall and the Cookstown Outlet Mall. First of Mum’s yoga classes at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre in the evening. Pleased I could keep up. 🙂
Wednesday 24th of April
Renewed drivers license. Went shopping and to Tim Horton’s. Rain inspired trip to the newly refurbished Circle Theatre in Alliston to see the matinee of “Olympus has fallen” and eat some popcorn. Kundalini yoga class in the evening. Sweaty!
Thursday 25th of April
Skating with Dad. A bit of a shakey start. Dad’s words of encouragement, “Watch your head if you fall….” Pancakes with real maple syrup for lunch at the Sunset Grill afterwards. Picked Janet up from the bus stop. Made herb crusted chicken recipe with cous cous from my cookery course for tea. Well received.
Friday 26th of April
Visit from Melissa and Brooklyn. Some sliding at Riverdale Park. Met Dan for lunch at Swiss Chalet. Love the chalet sauce. Fish and Chips for dinner from Judy’s chip van. Ewart, Pat and the cats in the evening.
Saturday 27th of April
Music recital in the morning – me on the piano, Mum on the recorder. No transcript for the master of ceremonies though. 😉 Morning has Broken, Paper Roses, Amazing Grace. Visit with Aunty Audrey, Uncle Jean and Jennifer in the afternoon. Spoiled again with cookies, scones and paintings for my birthday present. Walk in the park in the evening.
Sunday 28th of April
Church and hellos to Kim, Anne and my high school chemistry teacher, Mrs. Dickson. Drive to Scarborough to visit Aunt June. Tim bits for lunch! Looking at pictures and videos and eating Canadian themed cupcakes. Dinner (including poutine) at Mike’s on the way home – very local restaurant.
Monday 29th of April
Coyotes behind the house in the morning resulting in mission to rescue Scottie from outside. Kundalini yoga class. Ouch – Hard work! Mint Oreo Blizzard for lunch. Trip to Walmart in the afternoon and some orange and cranberry scones. *I need the recipe for these!* Salmon for dinner. Yum.
Tuesday 30th of April
Second skating session in the morning – marked improvement. Bags packed. September England trip booked including canal boat adventure. Pick up from Katrina (thanks!) and back to Oakville. Big hug from Mia. More tentative reception from Owen but he was chatting away to me soon enough. Lovely dinner followed by trip to build your own yogurt sundae place. Oh my.
Wednesday 1st of May
Big breakfast out. Hanging out, catching up. Trip to the most amazing leisure centre ever for some exercise and swimming. Dinner out at the “Muddy Duck” and time for the airport.
Where did the time go? At least with Mum and Dad, it will only be a few months until I see them again when they visit in September. And for Lauren and Andre a little bit longer to wait until their visit in October.
For everyone else, see you September 2014. Our next visit to the “Mother Country” for a certain cousin’s wedding! 🙂
