camping weekend number 2…

We had a bank holiday here this past weekend – that means 3 days off.  3 cheers for 3 days off!  So we headed to Wales for the second camping trip of 2009.

Brent got the train to Bangor and met us at the campsite on Friday night.  The campsite was that one we discovered last year near Bethesda.  I wrote about it at the time… I couldn’t quite decide at first whether I liked it or not.  It is a bit “run down” (particularly, the bathrooms aren’t up to my usual requirements) and parts of it are more junk yard than campsite.  But the great thing about it is it’s quiet, you have tonnes of space to pitch, it’s very green, there is a river running through it and there are none of those silly rules that seem to be present at some of the other more developed sites.  It’s also super cheap.  So after my initial reservations, we are now officially regulars…

The weather was great for our walk on Saturday morning.  Here it is…

The start was particularly steep (see profile) but it was worth the climb when we got to the top and walked the easy ups and downs of the ridges between the Carnedd’s for most of the rest of the walk.  Here’s some pictures….

Considering it was a bank holiday, we managed to escape most of the crowds – seeing a few people from time to time mostly at the mountain peaks.  We returned to the campsite with a sense of accomplishment and that good tiredness you only get after much fresh air and exercise.  The BBQ was a most welcome reward.

We came back to England Sunday via Betws-y-Coed.  The shops in the town held us there for a couple of hours.  On Monday, Brent and I had a lazy day spent mostly lunching and chatting at the local pub.  Paul had to go back to work, though – poor Paul.

But we all were back to work today… Not without some impure thoughts, though, of “calling in sick” and extending the little holiday….

Camping weekend number 3 is looking probably likely to be the end of May…  Looking forward to it already…
